We're a Mommy & a Daddy!!

It is official - we are a new Mommy and Daddy. YEAH!!!!!

The story begins ironically on Labor Day and Bill read on a website that China had matched families for the month of September through February 9th (we are February 8th) which means we should be expecting our referral any day. OMG! We were expecting to hear in October and travel in November. With ALL the waits and postponements and delays NO ONE expected us to get this one month EARLY. Practically unheard of! Then, to our shock, we received a call from our agency today at 2pm(we were thinking MAYBE 9/3 or 9/4 we would hear something)- they had our referral so I left work in a flurry of tears and joy & met Bill at our agency to view the face of our new addition.

There is an unexpected twist with all this good news.....she is not an infant. She turns three on September 30th. According to her dossier - she is potty trained, sleeps through the night, has a healthy appetite, seems to hit most major three year old milestones for development and OH DID I MENTION....CUTE AS A BUTTON!!! Since neither of us are getting any younger (sad but true) having a three year old will work out well. (Bill likes the idea she will graduate from HS before he turns 60.)

We should be traveling in 6-8 weeks so we will keep you all in the loop. MeMa and Papa are thrilled as is everyone we spoke to today and there are a LOT of people we've spoken to today which only reminds us of how loved we are and how truly lucky we are to have the support system we have.

Everyone has always asked us while we have been waiting "Is she born yet?" and we've always answered we didn't think so but the confirmation that this was meant to be is that she was placed in the orphanage (11/1/2005) almost right after we started our paper chase to begin the adoption process. FATE!

Update more soon as we know it....

Our 2nd daughter was almost 2 at adoption. There are some things harder about toddler adoption and some things easier. But she will be a joy! Congrats!

She's gorgeous and very sweet! Just curious, did you ask for an older toddler? We did for our first daughter, and received her at 16 months old, and with our second daughter we also requested an older toddler.
She is so beautiful

Welcome to another Qidong girl! My daughter is also from Qidong (b:7/99, adopted 5/00) starts 4th grade tomorrow!

I see Amy posted the link to the Yahoo list of Qidong families.

Do join the list! Did you get information as to whether your daughter is in foster care?

I visited Qidong 2 summers ago.

Look forward to hearing more from you!

My daughter was 3 when she came home last June, actually 3 months from 4. She is amazing and I know your Kassandra will be, too! I like to say she was out-of-the-box, ready to play from the start! Many congratulations!

She so precious.
We have just returned from China
(8 weeks ago) with our "baby" - she was 3 years old in June. While this was not the age we expected, she is perfect in every way for our family. We adore her, she is doing remarkabley with bonding, and we could not be happier. All the best to you. WE wish you much joy.

Let me start by saying CONGRATS on Kassandra! Her photos are just adorable!!! I have to ask based on your quote "there is an unexpected twist with all this good news.....she is not an infant. She turns three on September 30th". What did your dossier say as far as the age range that you requested and China approved you for????????????????
