When the picc line came out this time we all held our breath for a week. An abdominal ultrasound in mid-May showed the abscess to be flat and not containing any fluids. The doctors told us her liver would absorb the lining of the abscess and we knew she was recovered and this bad dream was in the past. March and April were a blur!!! Now, we all could concentrate on Kassie Fu and make up for lost time she missed while being sick. We never really thought about it but this abscess must have made her very uncomfortable. Typical toddler jumping and bending and flexing must have hurt. Kassie never loved to sit on your lap and have her back rubbed because we now know – it hurt. Now Kassie will sit on you and let you rub her back and asks “rub…rub…rub”.

Two BIG milestones for this month….Kassie moved to big girl underpants. Kassie Fu’s paperwork stated she was “potty trained”. Not true! She was trained to go on the potty. Big difference! She does not speak and is not able to say, ”I have to go to the bathroom” so even though Kassie Fu RARELY wet her pull-ups, she had comfort wearing them. We should not have waited - she was GREAT! Every few hours we would ask if she has to go? She would tell us “NO” and we would walk to the bathroom regardless and sit her on the potty and she would go.

Second big deal for Kassie was she moved from her crib to a toddler’s daybed. It is lower to the ground. There is a ¾ railing and the other ¼ is open so she can crawl in and out of it. Kassie can crawl in bed by herself and she can get out of bed herself. We know she must have been punished if she came out of her room without permission because she will get out of bed, but not leave her room. Some nights, we find her curled up sleeping on the floor since she must have gotten herself out of bed and was playing and feel asleep.
